Between these two, as others have stated, the main difference is the weight, the other difference is the M4 has two small gas pistons while the Beretta has only one large piston. The Benelli 11701 Limited Edition M4/M1014 has a fixed skeletonized stock (due to the recoil tube NOT machined for the stock to slide closed).The M4 is heavier and has a longer length of pull putting making feel very cumbersome. They are both equally as reliable, but the 1301 cycles faster. The 1301 mod 2 comes with standard with mods you would want for an M4. (Larger controls, 7 …Ha! It was pretty reliable as well.I shot the Benelli M4 Gen 1 and the Beretta 1301 Tactical Mod 1 at the range the other day, and noticed that the Benelli had significantly lower recoil than the Beretta shooting Federal Power-Shok 2 3/4" slugs (2521 ft/lbs). I'm inexperienced with tactical shotguns, so I'm not going to make my own conclusions on which is based off of my limited ...It has been compared numerous times vs. the M2 and validated the BM4 design cycles faster..and also against the Beretta 1301 which utilizes a long-stroke design piston system that involves more parts and results in slower cycling vs the M4 system. So, IMHO (if it's worth anything), 1301 is a great shotgun for HD with an excellent value, but it is still not at the same level with M4.
