Typically the spell does a little bit more damage to account for the fact that it won’t always be up. I prefer just using the infused weapon because it’s more convenient, especially for PVE, and if I’m in a tough fight I don’t have to worry about the spell running out.

Personally I'm not a fan of anything that deals magic damage as magic resistant enemies are one of the most obvious examples of an enemy that warrants use of a sidearm.
