I started on Survival difficulty. The differences which I know are: Enemies do 2x damage. Player character does 50% damage to enemies. There are more Legendary spawns. Health regens A LOT slower when eating/drinking/using Stimpacks. You get better loot because more legendary enemies spawn. Not sure about more XP.

I do believe that you get more XP when playing on higher difficulties, but not 100% on that. Level 31 here, I think making god like character is lot easier in Fallout4 than in 3 or New Vegas. Very hard if you want to plat the game a lot faster. Survival is the way to go though for pure pissin your pants, gut wrenching, hardcore enjoyment of the game. If you've played Skyrim, you already know most of the mechanics in the game. Start on Hard or Very Hard, and create a separate character for Survival.
