Gmc acadia shudder when accelerating.

If you accelerate quickly it is not noticed, but makes a sort of a howling sound. There are no CEL lights or codes. The tech checked that and was not charged for his time. He is aware of the wave plate issues and said it could be the start of that. He also suggested it could be a clogged catalytic converter. Any ideas?
