To put that into context, the average US MD school 4 year graduation rate is usually around 83%. Once you start looking at 5 or 6 year graduation rates it goes up into the low to mid 90s% for both DPM and MD.

He is prolly salty because a premed in the low 490s MCAT and 3.0 GPA can still go to Podiatry school and be a doctor while he had a 3.5 GPA, had to retake the MCAT many times, maybe had to do a SMP, barely get into a low tier DO school and is doomed to a life of primary care and maybe anesthesia or EM if he gets super high board scores.

Sure we don't all do RF/trauma stuff, but most orthos don't do rotationplasties and many don't even do like, knee replacements. Some plastic surgeons only do breast augs. Both schools still accept plenty of students with DAT scores. Many of the first year class at Temple submitted DAT scores. NYCPM will beg you to come to their school if your DAT score is high. That means 4th year ortho residents rotate through Podiatry (although they just cover surgical cases) to get their F/A numbers. They also cover a weekend of call every month.
