The SI Half is one of their smaller races so I think day-of would be doable. You'd have to get to SI stupid early though. FWIW, for the non-big 3 races (NYM, NYC Half, Brooklyn Half) advance packet pick-up is at the NYRR RUNCENTER on 57th Street, not at the race site.
Once I hit 210lbs (5'8") in 2014, I decided enough was enough and started running and weightlifting again. 2 years later and I finally hit my goal weight of 155lbs, I felt really good and decided the only appropriate thing to do was complete a Half-Marathon to prove to myself that I could overcome what happened 6 years ago.
