Marathon des Sables (English: Marathon of the Sands) is considered the world’s toughest marathon. It is a six-day marathon and has a total distance of 251 km. It takes place every year in Morocco in the Sahara Desert.

The six-day, 250km (156-mile) ultra-marathon takes place in the Sahara Desert and requires competitors to traverse through harsh Saharan terrain, extreme heat, and carry their own supplies. This is located in western Algeria near Morocco, Western Sahara and Mauritania. The starting line is in Smara Camp and finishing in L'Ayoun. It is held in late February. This year was the second running for the event. Approximately 320 runners from around the world traveled to the Camps for this years Sahara Marathon.
