Ziplines grounded.
There would be no useless ziplines, because anyone with half a functioning brain cell would just make a fucking harness and clip on, giving exactly the same effect as current. It's both an un-fun mechanic and one that is not internally logical in the game world. Pretty sure they're not dumb enough to do that.

Zip lines are perfect there. What we did, was build a foundation completely around the oak tree. Then zip lines to evwrywhere on the map, and lines back to the pond/oak tree area. You can use scaffoldings plus trampolines to Ascend really high. About 3ish trampolines should get you most spots from the highest root.

Ziplines can go both directions after clearing the black ant hill lab. They are still the best way of getting around as you can go over terrain. Beyond that, you can get things like aphid slippers, natural explorer and speed droplet to increase your movement speed. You likely had the zip lines at a very low angle if they felt slow.
