Turn the key to the "On" position for a few seconds while the fuel pump runs (can hear it in some GM vehicles- I haven't noticed it in the Malibu) to let it build up pressure, then over the Start. See if that changes anything.If the car won't start on it's own and you spray something like starting fluid in the intake and the car starts or sputters then that would usually mean a fuel issue.
