The epoxy coating does change the sound a bit. Gives a bit brighter highs. If the bass is defretted you must fill the fret slots and sand level before applying epoxy. It's not easy to get a professional looking job but it can be done. I'd mix up a small amount and test the technique first on a small piece of hardwood.

The neck is straight, the ebonol fretboard feels great, and the fretwork is excellent -- no rough edges whatsoever! The weight is 9.75 lbs. and it balances very well. The neck profile is decidedly non-Fender.

It gets a decent P bass sound, a decent Jazz bridge soloed sound, and with both pickups on full, gets a nice modern sound that doesn't sound like most P/J basses that I have played.
