TOME is one of the few roguelikes I've beat. It's definitely possible to beat in a reasonable amount of time, depending on your strategy, and there are a lot of feasible strategies. The miniquests on each level are a brilliant way to motivate the player. I appreciate the balance between Angband and something more ambitious.Combat is far more engaging than in any other roguelike. The classes are more interesting as well. Yeah, it trades world variety for class variety. The levels in Maj'Eyal are pretty similar every time, and eventually you get into a bit of a routine with them, but the playstyle changes a lot based on the class you choose.
