Mossberg 500 vs benelli nova.

SamF. Members. 14. Posted January 11, 2004. I'm planning on getting a new pump shotgun (my first) and right now I'm kind of in a battle between the Benelli Nova and the Mossberg 500... I like the look and features of the nova, but the mossbergs I hear can really take a beating. I also like that the mossberg guns come with ported barrels.We haven't done a shotgun video in awhile, so lets all just have some fun with some good ol' Boomsticks this weekend!Interested in becoming a Patreon contrib...I have both a Nova and a 500. The 500 is a very stout gun, the stock plastic grips do have a little wobble but the wood upgrade is solid. I do love my Nova though, the only down sides to me are the safely and action release are awkward compared to the 500 and the foregrip on the Nova feels super light weight and cheap.Idek. I'd go with the 930. 3-1/2" shells may have their place, but of the purposes you mentioned, it would only affect duck and goose hunting, and there are good 3" shells for ducks and geese too. The quality and specs of these 2 guns is beyond the Mossberg 500 and a used Remington 870. The barrel on the Mossberg is parkerized while the receiver on the Supernova is encased inside polymer to guard against rust. Both never jam. I give the edge to the Benelli though, the capacity issue is fixed with an extension.It's a Mossberg 835 w/ a turkey choke. I told her it would kick some with that tight turkey choke & be tough to hit a clay target too. Any way she only shot about 20 rounds before baging it up. I bought her the skeet choke for the 835. This again.. hmm. Said it many times; I own both a Mossberg 500 and a 870 and the 870 is a much better gun. Few things have been mentioned, like the position of the safety on the 500 is kind of bad. Where I really notice the difference though is the feel of the gun. The 870 feels solid all the way around, the Mossberg is less than solid feeling.Generally a waterfowl gun won't be a great home defense option unfortunately, but a shotgun isn't the best home defense option anyways. If you insist on it being one gun for both, I'd either buy a Benelli Nova/Supernova and deal with the longer barrel for home defense, or I'd buy a Mossberg 500 with a 28" barrel for hunting, then buy a 18-20" barrel for home defense and just swap barrels when ...

First, its lighter. Second, I feel it has a better action, and for me it is easier to cycle. The only one that I still have at home is the Benelli Supernova. I suggest holding all three if you can and shooting them. If you want a 28 inch barrel you want to consider the Mossberg 500, not the 590. The 590 only has up to 20 inch barrels: it's a dedicated tactical platform. The 500 is more general purpose.Don't get me wrong, I love my 930. 99.5% of the time it works perfectly, but I can never shake the anxiety that the next shot might not go as planned.
